Awesome! We're headed to that part of CO in a couple weeks. I'd like to do Engineer Pass (being an engineer, and all), but this is my first truck and first vehicle capable of anything offroad. Not sure something like that is a good intro. I'd feel more confident if I had some more experience. We'll do the Million Dollar Highway, but doubt we'll get in many trails.
If you want to do Engineer Pass, be prepared to drag the skids a little. There are a few rock sections you have to pick your way through. Cinnamon Pass is free of rock problems.

If you want to get off pavement give the east side (Silverton side) of Ophir Pass a go. It's a tame dirt road that takes you up high and there is a short hike from the pass that takes you to a scenic alpine lake. The west side of the pass will still be closed due to snow, so you'll have to drive back down vs. going over to Ophir/Telluride.

You should also drive up to the ghost town of Animas Forks from Silverton, another good introduction and easy drive.
Animas is great! This is the Mill right around the corner from the ghost town.

. An easy trail around there would be Last Dollar Road. Some of the best views in Colorado and easy to do.
