Air moving over any surface is very little at the actual surface. There is a very small surface of air between the truck and the flow that actually moves hardly any. I cannot remember what it's called..... not laminar though. You will see it sometimes while driving because the water stops...

The bracket on the cage have float spots so you can only remove it from the bed brackets when it is at a certain angle. The tailgate keeps it from moving to that angle when its stowed in the bed. Any amp research bed extender will work. The center 3 bar section can be removed and shortened...

You will gets lots of turbulent air behind the camper shell as it's got more dead space. And still a very low pressure inside the shell that will let air come in and then into the cabin, if you open both cabin, she'll, and the driver window. My grandpa always had shells on his trucks
