I agree there could be a problem with cops, I had thought of that too. Even if they're DOT compliant and technically legal, cops won't know that just by looking. And then I'd be stuck getting pulled over for no reason and pulling out owners manuals and documentation. I like the idea of a...
  2. Outside Magazine Ranger Project

I agree, they are more expensive, and maybe not worth it. The main reason I'm considering them is that I would like to slave them to the main high beams (yep, totally out of laziness), so they turn on and off automatically with the high beams. In that case I would need them to be DOT...
  3. Outside Magazine Ranger Project

Great video, thanks! While we love our FWC, I also want to have a lighter setup at some point and that looks pretty decent. One comment on the light bars - After doing some looking around, I found that Diode Dynamics makes a series of light bars with different available beam patterns, and one...

Thanks. Sounds good. My plan is to use it as a thin extra water tank between the camper and the bulkhead, and transfer water from it to a different tank that is in a more freezing-resistant location, so I can wait for it to un-freeze during the day as long as it doesn't get damaged.
  5. Outside Magazine Ranger Project

Hi Wes, One more question, I like the water tank, but before committing ~$250, I'm curious, do you have any issues with such a thin tank freezing up overnight, especially this early in the season?
  6. Outside Magazine Ranger Project

That Front Runner water tank is *exactly* what I've been looking for! It took me a while to see it until I realized it is thin and vertical. Thanks for pointing that out! Q: Do you also charge the PLB40 from the truck, or just the solar?
  7. SABER Ranger Club Thread

LOL, that's a good thread! EDIT: I'm looking at it and thinking if you were pretty good with the knife, you could move the middle bar of the R down, do a little patching, and have "DANGER". Hmmmmm ;)
  8. SABER Ranger Club Thread

Hi Dave, Thanks for the tip, I'll look into those. From the photo, it looks like they have some thickness and stiffness that would make them easier to put on than ones that are more like decals or stickers. I noticed that if you leave out the first "R", you have "ANGER" ;) I wonder when we'll...

I like the tailgate lettering. I'm thinking seriously about doing that once I find the time :)
  10. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

I found the product information sheet for the Valvoline here (see link). The Noack is 11 for 5W-30. Not the best out there, but okay. https://sharena21.springcm.com/Public/Document/18452/21f8644f-d5bf-e711-9c12-ac162d889bd1/dd7306bd-0ee0-e711-9c12-ac162d889bd1
  11. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

I agree. I'm sure there is a lot of marketing hype in these claims. Maybe not 100%, but still a lot. I think I did see the Noack result for the Valvoline somewhere, probably on a spec sheet that someone linked to, and I seem to remember it was good but not head-and-shoulders above (or below...
  12. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

Hi Mark, Our truck only has 8,000 miles, but since that includes the break-in period and I already tend to change oil on an somewhat accelerated schedule in our vehicles, I have changed it once already using Valvoline "Modern Engine" oil...
  13. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

Definitely post the results if you have it analyzed :) I'm not sure I'll go to that much trouble myself, but maybe next time I drain them I'll at least make sure I get all of it out into a sealed container (so the fuel portion doesn't evaporate away) and let it settle out into layers to see...
  14. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

It seems like I will definitely need to empty them more in the winter, LOL. I'd say the amount of oil+condensation is similar in both, but for any individual it might depend on how much of the time the turbine is spun up enough to pull crankcase gasses. We do a lot of driving over mountain...
  15. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

Yes. We took delivery in early July and I had the first catch can installed on the PCV side by sometime in August, so this is the first time I've drained them in colder weather. Also, I agree with @RCMUSTANG that the condensation does not contain very much fuel. I didn't pick it apart in...
  16. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

It varies a lot. In my own case, during the summer, the cans accumulated only oil, from both the PCV and turbo inlet sides. The more volatile stuff like fuel and water never condensed out. Now that we're part-way through winter, I emptied the cans again (I use a separate one for the turbo...

Contrats!! Definitely looks nice in snow :)
  18. SABER Ranger Club Thread

Hahaha, well, saber looks pretty darn good in the sand too as well as in snow!
  19. SABER Ranger Club Thread

Yeah, it's kind of weird, especially since Saber was the most featured color in Ford advertising initially. Maybe it's more popular in some regions, dunno. An interesting side note is that because we wanted a Supercab XLT, we needed to custom order it, since Supercabs were also pretty rare on...
  20. SABER Ranger Club Thread

Sounds good, I'll definitely try it out - might even make owning s chainsaw worth it again ;) I don't want to spend too much time off-topic, but thanks for pointing this out!
