On-board test equipment can have a tremendous amout of draw on the vehicle electrical system. If the validation testing is for electrical (is the alternator big enough to run the giant-ass fans, etc), then it may not be even running off the vehicle system.
Your assumtion is likely correct, but there's no way to be absolutely sure until the owners manual is available. Ford could pull some last-minute BS like GM and use a single-speed auto case like in the Explorer or base 4wd Colorados and Silverados.
There were thousands of incomplete trucks in holding lots. Ford will take their sweet ol' time ramping up the new model while they clear out inventory with the least incentives necessary.
We'll have to see how the interior turns out, but chassis and powertrain should be well sorted- Fully boxed, rear coil frame, that's basically identical to the 4Runner and Prado, and the T24/10speed should be as well sorted as in the Tundra. Honestly my biggest hangup with the Ranger is with...
Disappointed to see that "H" on the bumper/grille. I was hoping they would just use the Raptor grille, or similar. CHMSL is visible on the cab. not much else that I see.
The entire article is so terrible that I wouldn't put any weight in it. Given the very limited level of automotive knowledge the "writer" demonstrates, the European model could well be using the OTHER 3L V6 turbo engine.
I'm in SE MI. I regularly drive by the storage lots full of unfinished Rangers. Hard to tell just how many there are. I agree that the 2.3/10speed are an excellent combo- though the '23 Colorado will get a big leg up on torque.
If we get a manual trans in the US at all, I expect it will be the 7spd used in the Bronco. While it was initially derived from the Mustang 6spd, it is significantly different internally. Co-worker with one likes it so far.
