To be honest I didn't even know there was a severe service recommendation. No two people are going severely use their vehicle the exact same way. When it comes to motor oil & drivetrain fluids there's no such as 'too often'.
Getting fluid analysis done is the only true way to know what's...
I hate to mention brand names on here because 9 times out of 10 it opens up a rabbit hole and everyone jumps in, but here goes nothing lol......I use Amsoil.
I'm going to catch a lot of flak for this on here, but I'm convinced it's the poor quality fluids. Change them all out in your diffs, transfer case and transmission with a good brand name.
My 5G Ranger had horrible gear hunting/hesitation/lurching etc. I started with the simplest things...
I changed both diffs and transfer case fluids in my '19 Ranger at 10k. All three were were grey with metal dust (looked like grey milk) and the magnets on the drain plugs weren't collecting any more.
My '19 Ranger takes the exact same filter as two of my ride-on mowers. A mid 90's John Deere and a new Cub Cadet zero turn. Makes life easier when filter shopping.
Live in the salt belt? I'd leave them off and go get the rails Line-X'd, and under them.
Mind you, the ones on my '07 Ranger were stuck on with double sided tape, the metal under them rotted/rusted totally away. And I kept them sprayed with Fluid Film and Wool Wax.
I'm not brand loyal anymore, here is my 2 cents worth.......I've got a '19 Ranger, coworker just had his '24 Tacoma delivered to him and I've taken it for a drive. Other than a few creature comforts, I like my truck better. It just feels more like 'a truck' to me, plus mine's more peppy around...
I'm Keeping my '19 Supercab Ras long as I can.
Probably lots of 5G Supercab Rangers out there for sale.
I'm keeping mine as long as I can. Once it has had its last supper, if no one brings one back to the market I'll be going to a regular cab F150.
