I was installing the Toyota Trailhunter rear differential guard (bought from Yota Xpedition) and ran into a problem. It wouldn’t fit.

I went to go watch and install video to see what a diff looks like for an install that worked. And it appears as though the one I have is different. Anybody else aware of Toyota changing rear differential designs for 2025?

Photos are shots of my diff and one from the install done by Yota Xpedition on their YouTube Channel. Clearly a different design.

I found out the problem. The model they list on their website as being universal “fits all models” is actually just for the non-hybrid models. There’s a separate part number for the hybrid. The hybrid part number is PT228-35242. The model they sell is 245.

it didn’t even occur to me that a Trailhunter part would be available for a non-hybrid and the install video would be for a non-hybrid. 🤷🏻‍♂️

and the hybrids share the same rear diff from the tundra 8 1/2-9"?, its 1/2-1" bigger I think, could be wrong

The Yota Xpedition video also does not mention the rubber sleeves and axle brackets have a specific orientation (besides the open end facing down). There is also a molded in angle, described in the Toyota install instructions, that is to point towards the wheels.
