In between the bed and the cab, I have a piece of styrofoam. It is only on the driver's side. I try to move it with a stick but it appears to be attached. I don't want to remove it if it serves a function. It was hard to get a photo but these are from the top looking down.

That's to absorb the mind controlling laser beams that the CIA is shooting down from the sky; when they're not busy with the chem trails of course.

I live across the street from a watershed that has many pine trees. Because I have to park my 24 Ranger Lariat outside (which I hate doing) a large amount of pine needles are collecting on that material. The space is so tight I can't vacuum the needles out, and using a blower seems to push the needles in tighter. I am concerned about the needles holding even more moisture and causing a rusting issue. So, do I leave it as is or try to remove the material?

It’s not intended to be there after customer delivery. Some (but not all) dealerships are removing it during PDI. I removed mine and it was wet and dirty.

Some mistakenly believe it is for NVH purposes but it is not. Ford would not use a material that absorbs/holds water like a sponge on an external location that is exposed to water and debris.

I used an aluminum yard stick to remove it. I put masking tape on the yardstick to prevent scratching the paint.

I drilled through those black drain caps in the front of the bed to run the drain tubes from a tonneau cover. That styrofoam thing spun around the drill bit and it basically looks like a rolled up towel now. If it had a function, it doesn't anymore.

It's how they recycle styrofoam safely. The company sandwiches it between every pickup bed manufactured and pretends it has a function. While keeping everyone guessing what that is. LOL It got in the way of my drain tube for my retractable bed cover.
