This is frustrating. Same thing happened to me at my dealer. Is a possibility they will make ones to fit are we just have to go aftermarket at this point?
Has anyone contacted Toyota directly for this? Maybe I’ll email them to see what they say.
Edit: I called Toyota and they said to go to the dealer and the dealer will document and then send it up to Toyota. They were unable to tell me if/which model should or should not have threaded frame holes, lol.
I've considered Westcott Design sliders, so just called them to inquire about the blind bolt kit that they sell for unthreaded holes. Their blind bolts are a toggle style that don't require a special installation tool. I'd like to be able to remove the sliders for repainting, and he said that the toggles can be removed; they don't just drop into the frame when the bolt is removed.
Blind bolts might be a solution for installation of OEM and other brands onto frames without threaded holes.
It's important for owners to go to dealers and have them write up a service order for the issue. Toyota's philosophy of continuous improvement means that they will see eventually see this issue as the service orders start piling up. Also, dealers are missing out on money they could make selling and installing the rock rails. So I'm sure they will push the issue with Toyota when they see how many people want them but can't install them. This may push them to engineer a work around for this.
I just got my CBI slides today and very disappointed to find I have this issue. I have an appointment in the morning with local dealership to review this issue…
