Coming from a wrangler that took 1.2qts in the rear diff, where will all that fluid go? Is this a typo, or is the fluid alone $250 to maintain the rear diff. 5.9qts seems like a lot of gear oil.

I know in all previous generations it was around 3 quarts. Perhaps this is a typo?

While that was a photo I found for visual reference. The housing is pretty big on the new 4Runner

Does the Trailhunter have a larger differential than other 4Runners?

Yes I looked at the manual last night looking for an answer to see.... nevertheless I was shocked! I knew that Hybrids have the 9" ring diff, but still.... 6.9 seems like a LOT>
I've been in and around Toyota axles from 80's and 90's... my 3rd gen takes a little over 2 qt..
I know the axle on 6th gen is wider and in TH bigger diff. compared to 3rd gen, but 5.9 seems crazy!

Please anyone enlighten us here if you've changed your diff oil already. THX

Interesting. The Tacoma only calls for 5 quarts and I figured they would use the same differential. Either way I always just fill until it starts flowing out of the fill plug.

Yes, always been a TOYOTA thing as far as I know. It would be good to know ahead of time how much to have in hand.... 😅 😅 I guess getting (2) 5 quart bottles when that time comes...
