I just got a Ranger Raptor and I want to get the Ford tune. My question relates to what happens when you add other parts that would theoretically add power with the Ford tune?

For example, adding an intercooler, down pipes, etc. adds more power and a tune is needed to get the highest gains. However, with the Ford tune, it is a canned tune. So, if you can't adjust the tune at all, what power gains could you really expect from the other bolt ons? Would they be worth it, or would you just be getting the same gains as if you just had a stock tune?

I am not too keen on buying another ECU (and it needs to be a new one to retain the exhaust mode functionality) for $$$$ with a tune from ZFG for example.

A) Replacing your intercooler does not add any power.
B) Outfits such as ZFG do not require you to replace your ECU. They are able to modify the calibration of the OEM ECU.
C) If you are wanting any more power over what the Ford Performance tune offers, you are going to need a bigger fuel pump and injectors as well…

The ranger raptor needs a f150 raptor ecu to tune it.

Downpipes and intake should still net 30-50 HP over stock, you will experience less boost because of less back pressure and should net more mpg if you can keep you foot out of the turbo's

Any thoughts on which CAI. I don't feel like $1400 on some of the ones our there is worth the money. I like the aFe one that is like $600ish.

Do you think there is an actual performance difference between the very high priced ones and this lower priced one?

Do you have a link? Is it the one for the 22-24 Bronco Raptor? They still don't have a dedicated Ranger/Ranger Raptor selector.

I bought my UPR oil catch can from them and was happy with price and speed of delivery.

EDIT:
The aFe website has the following part numbers for their CAI:

https://afepower.com/afe-power-50-70116d-momentum-gt-cold-air-intake-system-w-pro-dry-s-filter
Ford Ranger Raptor 2024 V6-3.0L (tt)
Part Number

$601.65

My point exactly. I mean, sure probably the higher priced ones are better quality and metal, or whatever, but not worth and extra $900 or more IMHO. Honestly the prices of those are really outrageous, but hey if people buy them, more power to the manufactureres

I can't imagine, nor have I seen any numbers on this, that the flow would be better on the more expensive ones.

Is the need for a new ECU a Raptor thing? Because people have tune non-raptor Rangers without a new ECU. The current ECU is just reprogrammed with the tuner.

Everyone I spoke to regarding the RR ECU is that you need a new ECU since they have not been able to unlock the current ECU nor have they gotten the ability to unlock through Ford.

I really wish this was not the case since I would like to not like to pay for a new ECU, that is $$$$!

It's because of the engine modes attached to exhaust and suspension modes.

I wouldn't want to be the first person to try downpipes with the Ford Performance Tune. I'd be concerned with the truck leaning out and being unable to provide enough fuel. If you are the first person, hope you are familar with datalogging and pay close attention.

Intercooler is fine and CAI likely is OK too.

The O2 sensors are there for a reason.
