You're comparing an eco hybrid in a unibody SUV to a performance hybrid in a body-on-frame SUV. They really are two VERY different vehicles, and the hybrid systems are entirely different.
My wife has a Rav4 Hybrid, and it could not be more different in driving dynamics and implementation.
Yes you're right but my point is I can guarantee that Toyota has a way to do it and they are choosing not to just to keep that Gap and keep us in this price point.

There is probably some truth to that, but I really think what they'd have to sacrifice to make the 4Runner Hybrid gain anywhere near the gas mileage that would really satisfy us would ruin it.

Or, it would just make it entirely too expensive. Battery technology is probably part of the reason it's limited. We don't get high capacity expensive lithium batteries. We just get Nickel-metal hydride.

as has been previously noted, the BoF hybrid system was designed for power not MPG. it has never been touted in anything by toyota that the BoF was for MPG.

this is evident in the new tundra, sequoia, tacoma or the 4runner. if you expect better mpg you are in the wrong model lineup within toyota.

you want mpg, go get a unibody vehicle (venza, highlander, grand highlander, rav4, corolla cross, etc)

I thought I would get close to 325 miles, but I only went 292 miles in my first tank. Is this normal or does it take a few fillups for the gas to get better.
My husband drives like an old man because he is😝. He was able to average 26.4 on our last trip in our ORP non hybrid. We had around 1000 miles on it.
