Has anyone installed a new intercooler on their own yet?

I just received the Wagner intercooler and spent 2 hours trying to figure out how the hell to remove the lower bumper. The instructions that came with it are complete crap, and I feel utterly defeated. I removed as many screws as I could get to but nope, couldnt figure out what I was missing. This is coming from someone who removed the entire interior to install a whole new audio system.

So yeah, if anyone has done this mod already, can you tell me what Im missing? With pictures if possible.

So you got the one they had in inventory :D Congrats! Videos I've seen make it look quite easy, and they didn't remove the bumper. Just dropped the skid plate, and removed the tow hooks which help hold it in place. This was for a Cobb though.

After looking at Wagner's instructions, (german primary translated to english), I see they add some mounting brackets so that's probably why the lower bumper gets removed. Also see they trimmed the shutter system a bit for clearance. I'm probably going to scrap the louver system if it doesn't throw any codes (that can't be defeated in Forscan).

Yeah, that was me. I watched the video of the Fenix intercooler install after I was done and even though they popped off the front bumper, they said the instructions didnt need to. That being said, as much as I tried, I couldnt get that center plastic part out of the grill to get to the bumper bolts. Maybe If I have time tomorrow Ill attack it again. Very disappointed though.

So is it not actually a direct replacement? I’ve seen videos for the F150 gen 3 Raptor where they just drop the skid plate and install it quick but that was with the cobb intercooler.

It looks like it should be from underneath, but you need to remove the lower bumper to get the whole louvered shroud off.

I bought th COBB intercooler and installed it myself. It came with clear instructions and couldn’t have been any easier. You drop the front skid pan, unbolt the support to drop the intercooler, pop the clips on the connections, connect the new intercooler, and put everything back together. It took me less than 30 minutes start to finish using an impact wrench.

What about the plastic shroud around the intercooler? Looks to me like it's connected above with some bolts. I kept trying to pull it down but it felt like it wasn't loose enough.

My Wagner IC showed up today. Will be following your progress @HyperM3 - I’m going to wait until a couple of the Rival skids I pre ordered ship (should be next week or so for my engine and fuel tank ones), so I can tackle it all at once.

You don't need to remove bumper, just the skid plate and tow hooks, the rest can be done with a 13 mm ratchet wrench. The hardest part was one of the captured nuts left the building, and getting the charge pipes to seat.

I don't know how you got the whole OEM intercooler out with the plastic shroud around it. It felt like there was a screw or bolt holding it in from the top.

8 or 10 mm wrench or socket. Was real easy to see
