My friend just had this happen yesterday. He picked up his BRAND NEW 2025 4Runner (Hybrid option) from Greens Toyota in Lexington, KY. On the way home, all dash lights came on and the “Hybrid System Failure” came on. Said he also heard a loud sound right before. It had 39 miles on the car. Had it towed and is currently driving a rental, waiting for further notice.

UPDATE:
Dealer dropped the transmission. When they dropped the “trans pan” there were “metal shavings everywhere”…per the dealer. They are ordering a new transmission for it now. 39 miles…I’d say a manufacturing quality issue.

Well shit. Looks like they traded it from the engines to the transmission.

Dumb question but is there a chance this problem extends out from the transmission into other engine areas?

Would think these would be better since they are made in Japan. At least the warranty is good for 10 yrs/100k. Id be pissed though happening to a new $60k vehicle

Ok so I just heard back finally today that the vehicle was low on some fluid (he didn't know which) When I go to pick up my car in an hour I will be asking I said how can it be low after 2months and he said they don't check at delivery. I will be upset if this has caused lasting problems on my engine.

Just today they called me saying that the car i have had for 2 months was super low on some fluid and that caused the hybrid system to crash. when I go pick up my car I will ask for a complete list of what fluids were low. His response was sometimes they miss that on delivery I

Man that just burns me up, I can't say how much I hate dealerships.

Similar problems, poor setup at the dealership caused me 3 trips to get it straightened out.

They had the shocks set at the lowest setting which kinda makes it feel like a pre runner, cool, but not so much for the wife going down the hgwy, had the tire pressure at 58psi, bumps were awesome, and actual missing items.

Just stupid, common sense (probably on a list) stuff to do when you deliver a car.

Doesn't seem much to ask when they ask so much for their vehicles.

Really hope everything works out for you.

I'd get everything either recorded or written down.

As I was waiting to get on the freeway I heard a thump like the vehicle shifted out of gear. Luckily we were in traffic and crawling and the Toyota dealership was 3 exits up when I hit 30 mph my rpm's were at 4000. Waiting to hear today. My platinum only has 1600 miles on it.

UPDATE So I got my car back and they stated it happened because the transmission fluid was low and that it did not come full from Japan and no one bothered to check it at port or the dealership

Sorry if I missed it but were you able to keep driving it to the dealership or did it just stop and have to get towed? Low tranny fluid is ridiculous by the way; I will be running out and checking both mine IF they even have a dipstick.

I was able to go 20mph I was 4exits away about 4 miles if I tried to go faster the RPM's shot up to 4000
