Hi all,
I’m planning to trade in my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk for a 4Runner and need help deciding on the trim. We’ll be using the 4Runner mostly for city/highway driving, but we want 4WD primarily for handling snow during the winter.

We’re not fans of the big plastic fender flares on the ORP, but the TRD Sport lacks the additional 4WD modes we’d like. While all of this could be solved by buying the TRD Pro in black, I don’t want to spend $70k.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how well the TRD Sport handles snow. I’m also bummed that all-time 4WD isn’t available on any trim below the Limited—and we don’t really like the styling of the Limited anyway.

Thanks for your help!

The Sport is all you will need. Unless you think you’re going to need a rear locker? OR has the rear locker. Both have 4 hi and low.

Doesn't like Sport body color flares but also doesn't like the looks of the Limited hmmmmm

There is no gonna be no replacement for the full time 4WD of the Limited for the pavement princess that you're describing. Unless you're sure that every single time you get snow you are guaranteed to be absolutely dunked in it and the roads will never be clear ever.

Test drive them. They all drive differently. Make sure to drive on some bumpy roads too.

Thanks. That's the option I am considering. Yes, not a huge fan of the grill. Also, would need to swap the wheels and tires (true for sport as well though).

I know you asked about the sport but here is my Limited debadged with different wheels and tires. Understand the dislike for chrome as I am the same but the grill doesn’t bother me now that I’ve done these other things. I went with the Limited as it is more for street driving and light off-roading and wanted the full time 4WD and other creature comforts. My Raptor is for the heavier off road duty.

I went with the TRD Sport Premium. I got the Wind Chill Pearl color with matching fenders, rear view mirrors and door handles all the same color as the vehicle, nothing black. It has 2 wheel, 4 hi and 4 low. Got the 20 inch Nitto tires. Its great for on road and can handle off road as well and should do fine in the snow.

I’d get a TRD or a TrailHunter depending on your style/taste. I love my TRD Pro.

This looks awesome! Which wheels and tires did you switch to?

Thanks! They are the TRD off-road upgrade wheels.
Part number is PTR-56-35242-F1. I usually go aftermarket but really liked these and they are OEM. Tires are Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70r18.

Is your Trailhawk a full-time 4 wheel drive? Part time might be a real pain for on-road driving like snow.
