I installed a Retrax Pro XR tonneau cover on my 2025 RR. Wanter to highlight for other RR owners that (1) Retrax recommends that trucks without J brackets install theses extra brackets and (2) Retrax’s instructions need some modification. Contrary to the instructions, you should install the front brackets first, then the foam pad across the front of the bed. Retrax’s instructions have you install the pad first. If you do so, you must pull up (unstick) the ends of the pad to screw down these front brackets. Other than this extra step, the installation was straight forward. The cover looks great, rock solid build quality. And it should be for ~$2,500!

I’m currently trying to install the same cover for my RR. I just couldn’t figure out where the front brackets go, it’s driving me nuts. Can you please help me out?

I completed installation of my cover and had those brackets left over. It was bugging me so I called Retrax. Great customer service. They said that since some RRs didn’t have J braces, they were supplying the 4 brackets to provide extra support. They emailed me a supplemental set of instructions specifically for RRs. I uninstalled my cover, installed the brackets, and reinstalled the cover.

The extra Retrax brackets are related to the missing J braces which support the bed of the truck. I couldn’t find them when crawling around under my truck. I consulted this message board but couldn’t locate them. Note, the factory installed Js do not look like the after market, dealer installed Js which appear in several posts on this message board. So I felt I should install the Retrax brackets. Ultimately Ford confirmed during my first service that my RR did have the extra support of the bed. So technically, I didn’t need the 4 Retrax brackets. If your RR was made after Sept 2024 (I think), you too probably have J braces and may not need the extra Retrax suppprts.

I strongly recommend that you get the supplemental set of instructions from Retrax. Good luck!
