i ended up putting 275/60r20 on my limited, which is a 4.8 percent increase in diameter. 31.5 to 33 ive seen the various posts of other people doing the same.

my question is… is that percentage acceptable im seeing literature saying no more than 3 percent but other literature saying 15 percent is ok for suvs/trucks

or am i overthinking it at this point as they fit and do not rub

Acceptable.......for what? Fuel economy? Driveline wear? Stopping distance?

Largest stock tire size on 4R is 32.6", so as far as I'm concerned you're at +1.2%. I'm not even gonna entertain the 15% percent suggestion

It sounds like you are happy with the fitment, so no problems? If you are only now after the fact worrying, then you probably should have thought about that beforehand considering that anything that isn't OEM spec is, well, not OEM spec. But even heavier tires in the same OE size would be 'not OEM spec' so technically subject to *potential* increased wear, so you're probably overthinking it.

As far as I know, Toyota still locks down the computer, so tire size can't be adjusted in there. This means that the 4Runner thinks it has the factory size and your shift points/odo/tripmeter will be off. I've gone up to 35s (from my stock 33s) on my Tundra, and it absolutely affects how it behaves. I stepped back down on the next set to about 34" tires, and it's acceptable. My Jeep (94 Wrangler) has a giant lift and bigass tires compared to the tiny ones it came with. It's an absolute pigdog and gets 8mpg downhill with a tailwind. It'll climb a tree tho :D

I've done the same switch on other vehicles, but been able to adjust the ECM to know the actual tire size, and it's much more seamless.

In short, for a daily driver Toyota, I absolutely will not go up more than maybe one size from factory.

yeah i realize itll be a hit on mpg… just curious if its going to cause too much stress on the system… i saw that the or and orp come with 32.6 so i put that into my equation … so im curious if its that much of a stress on the system

i do have some impulsivity in me so open to advise/suggestions

Ive been wanting to see what people do with rim / tire combos on the platinum / limited / sports with the stock 20 rims. Post a pic of the whole rig from the side if you can! Let’s hear your feedback since you went for it! How’s she drive?

@Hobb3s - curious, do you reckon since the stock 20 inch rims come with a slightly smaller diameter tire (by an inch) Toyota built slightly different computational math for all that? I wonder if that’s why you can’t option the TRD 18 rims on those. Sorry if that’s a dumb question.

I wouldn't worry about driveline wear at these sizes, +1%. Above 34", probably (since lifts and thus CV angles should come into the picture around that point). And even then it's pretty theoretical and speculative. TNGA-F supports many vehicles and I'm not aware of widespread problems in driveline components.

i want to love it, may go back and put a oe tire back on though.. depend on how much mpg hit there is.. its a d load tire so it could be a pretty big hit

Thanks for posting that. Do share feedback if you keep em on for any length to get a feel for em! It looks pretty good on the side profile there.

im debating a set of the TRD rims with the stock tire size for the limited I have coming with the 20” wheels but that size 275/60r20 on the 20s looks tempting.

my favorite SL rated tire for my purposes is the snow rated cooper road and trail which I have on my 5th gen right now and it looks like it comes in 275/60r20. Kind of the perfect mostly road but sometimes fun tire I’ve found. So sharing this info has already been helpful, thanks!

I'm sure they have it programmed to the proper tire size for the trim/tire.

I don't know at what level the actual math is modifiable. Dealer/distributor/etc...No idea. Toyotas are locked down pretty tight. This is why people build LS's, not 3URs :D
