I went to put on the Trailhunter front skid today and to my surprise there was only 1 small felt splash guard up front -- no second piece as I have seen in other threads. Soooo that left me 2 bolts short, lol. Obviously the front and back 4 will hold in on just fine, but it bugged me enough to order the hardware kit ($8) and while I was at it I tossed the transmission skid in the cart too. Other than not having enough bolts, it was easy and quick. So if you have an SR5, definitely check and make sure you have both of the worthless splash guards or you'll need more hardware as well. I'll post pics of both when I get the other plate on next week.

Great info. Considering adding some under belly protection depending on costs.
FWIW, the OEM skid plates have been on sale and since you can pick them up at the local dealership, there’s no shipping. It ended up being a lot less expensive than going with a 3rd party.

@photorunner did you have to get the extra cross bars for mounting the skid plate. I know in the Tacoma you kinda have to get the cross bars?

@nubbins_ straight bolts on? On sr5 btw
Sorry, what do you mean by straight bolts on?

The only snag seems to be that the middle crossmember holes in the skid plate (where the control arms are i think) are not exactly the same as on Tacoma, NYTOP clarified last week.

And possibly needing to get some fasteners as mentioned in this thread, of course.

@nubbins_ on a Tacoma videos I’ve seen. They added a cross bar to mount the front part of the skid plate. I’m not the sure if it’s the same with the 4Runner.

Yes, that is what the above posts were referring to. The 4R comes with the front crossmember, no cheaping out like half the Tacoma trims.

@photorunner. I guess mine is missing a piece too. I’m a couple of bolts short😆
It might be that all the SR5’s only have the small front splash guard. Luckily the hardware kit is inexpensive so you can get enough bolts!
