150-200K? That means my 4Runner will only last me 20 years. I’m 67. 20 should be enough.
Okay okay, perhaps I exaggerated a bit. 😌 A more realistic expectation for the life span of the turbos might be 100k-150k depending on how hard you are on it & if it is properly cared for. But they can last a long while when cared for properly IMO.

Although the owners manual states only regular 87 octane gasoline is required I'll personally only fill with Top Tier rated mid-grade 89 octane or premium grade 91 octane gasoline. It doesn't harm anything & may even help extend the life of the engine & it's turbos.

Same here. I think a lot of people are making too much fuss about the Turbo 4 cylinder engine. Yes, the turbo will give up the ghost at some point but if it's cared for & driven reasonably then I think it can last upwards of 150k-200k miles. Early & often oil changes with new air filters at 4k-6k miles will be key...and letting the engine warm the oil up for 1.5-2 minutes before taking off then letting the oil & turbos cool during engine idle for 2-4 minutes before shutting off the engine. That's my plan anyway.

I'm actually pretty concerned about the brake squealing issue that many people are suffering...not just with the new 4Runners either. Toyota shit the bed with the new generation brake system in the newer models & needs to make it right sooner than later. It's easy to ruin a long standing reputation for quality & dependability after being on top for so long when these kinds of missteps are increasing. I hope I didn't make a mistake passing up a 2024 Lexus RX350 & a 2026 Honda Passport to get the '25 4Runner but I still believe in Toyota's reputation & I think the 4Runner is an awesome looking vehicle so I got one despite the overly inflated pricing.
When the turbo goes.... I'm getting a bigger turbo >:D

150k would be embarrassing for an engine as specifically designed for durability as the T24A. Abused fleet Ecoboosts left and right have all been trucking along for years, doing 200-300k on standard maintenance in pretty rough conditions. The 2TR might be a lot to live up to, but I don't think 2GR is an unreasonable benchmark to aim for with this motor. People need to open their eyes and stop pretending that the 2GR was some kind of saint, lol (hello? major oil leaks?).

Don't listen to the NA fudds stuck in 1999. Their ideal of reliability just entails as much neglect and abuse as possible and expecting the engine to come out flawless on the other side.

If they actually cared about reliability, they would boycott Honda endlessly until Honda decides to drop VCM from all its J35s. Their literal only leg to stand on currently is "we're not GM so our cylinder deactivation is different, man" and "don't worry about that older stuff from past years, we've fixed that"

Another plus to having dual injection on Toyota and Ford is that it could potentially ward off or delay the adoption of GPFs, depending on implementation of course. GPF is imminently coming for pretty much all DI-only platforms that care about complying with new emissions rules.

Can you take the oil changes and tire rotations early ? My sticker on the window says oil change at 5k, or 10-15-2025 , I assume you get 2 free oil changes and tires rotations anytime before 20k miles. Correct me if I am wrong

My dealer charged me for the ‘early’ oil change (1000K). I suppose I’ll get charged again at 5K, b/c they say 7.5K is first paid change and tire rotation.
That sounds about right for most service depts.. Most will take your money if willing to pay it & withhold the free oil changes until Toyota says it's due under their service plan.

This is confusing, I'm reading the maintenance guide supplement and in the maintenance chart it has to replace the engine oil every 10k miles. Then on the page after the charts it says for special operating conditions to change it every 5k miles, and your dealer is telling you every 7k Miles? For me I'm not waiting until 10k miles the same as I've done on our other Toyotas, but it really surprises me that Toyota still has 10k with the turbo engines.

I just called my dealership for some clarity and they confirmed the only oil changes covered under Toyota care are the same 10k & 20k.

I just called my dealership for some clarity and they confirmed the only oil changes covered under Toyota care are the same 10k & 20k.
I'd go in & tell them you have been driving under severe conditions & the maintence schedule requires an oil change at 5k miles. It should be free under Toyota Care in my opinion.
