Hey everyone,

I’m currently driving a 4th gen and have been eyeing the new 6th gen 4Runner since its release. I’m about 90% sold on it, but would like to hear what pushed you to make the leap.

Appreciate any thoughts as I’m trying to figure out what I want to do!

Did you see this review posted today?

He lays out how the 6th gen is better than the 5th gen, so all the 6th gen advantages should be even more pronounced when comparing to the 4th gen.

I was browsing used 5th gens for months, but currently they cost as much or more than 6th gens in my area with 10s or even 100k on the odo. 5th gen has its undeniable perks but they aren't worth that obscene price to me. Especially with the very unimpressive driving dynamics from the powertrain, suspension and brakes.

There was a thread here briefly comparing the two:

I loved my 5th gen but it was a scary vehicle on the highway at speed. Uncertain handling, funky brake dive, scary cornering, etc. The 6th Gen wins hands down in handling, braking, power delivery. I miss the old rear seat and sliding tray on my Trail but the new one beats it by a mile.

between owning a 4th gen in 2008 to 2016 and a 5th in 2016 to 2025 after 16 years of driving the same thing basically I was excited for the redesign and got rid of my 2016 for a 2025

We currently have a 2024 TRD Offroad Premium in Underground and absolutely love that vehicle. It is a bullet proof tank. We put a deposit on a 25 4runner on April 20th 2024 because as Toyota people we were interested in the Hybrid option as Toyota has had a great track record with their Hybrid engines. About 6 months ago after watching all the preproduction Youtube videos we narrowed are wants down to a TRD Pro Mudbath or Trailhunter Everest(both upon availability these are not just sitting on lots waiting to be purchased yet). I then had a gut feeling to go with the Mudbath Pro about 4 months ago and contacted my sales rep to see if he could put our deposit on that request. Best decision we ever made. We absolutely love the Pro. It literally dominates the road. Each time we purchase a Toyota(4runner or Tacoma) we always opt for the TRD ORP so we decided to level up to the Pro. Wow this vehicle is sooooo fun to drive. The 4th Gen 4runner you have is a beast as well hopefully if you decide on a 6th gen you keep the 4th Gen as well(we are keeping the 24 TRD ORP to solid of a vehicle to give up). Happy Trails and if you are at 90% on the 6th Gen and have the means to purchase go for it. Its a Toyota how bad could it be??

I had a 5th and 4th and frankly I was tired of the powertrain. It would have been different if was efficient and underpowered. I disagree about the 5th being sketchy on the highway, but mine also had KDSS which was actually pretty good for that. The 6th gen is more efficient, powerful and drives very nice on the road. I got rid of my 5th about 18 months before the 6th started showing up in preparation.

Originally wanted to get a 3rd gen or v8 4th gen and keep my current car. Most are priced too high so started looking at 5th gens and almost got one last year. Same thing they are priced too high so figured might as well look at the new gen. I wanted a car and suv but my thinking was i will daily the suv and use it for trips so make sure i get something newer that should last and the car will be the toy. Trading in my mkv supra for the 6 gen in a couple weeks. Previously had a 3rd gen and been a toyota family

This is pretty much why I'm considering the 6th instead of the 5th. Like you, I've looked at them on and off for probably years but just never pulled the trigger. I'll check out that thread now, thanks!

I have owned a 3rd Gen and 4th Gen V8. After that I switched to a Lexus RX 350 for 14 years. When I heard the 6th Gen was coming out with Hybrid battery, I had to have it. I custom built my 6G Hybrid and after 4 months of waiting, I picked it up 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love it!!!! I wanted the platinum model but really disliked the blue interior. I ended up building the limited with black leather interior and creating the vehicle so it matched 99.9% of the platinum......black interior instead of blue and couldn't get backseat heaters.
