I just ordered the stealthtech subwoofer enclosure and now need to pick a sub. It seems like most are running the hertz mps 250, but has anyone installed a different sub that is confirmed to fit? The hertz looks great, but I was hoping to find something a bit cheaper if possible. Maybe a JL 10w1 or something from Rockford, pioneer or kicker? Any fit confirmations would be appreciated

I didn’t try the 10TW1. I have the 10TW3 and I can confirm it does not fit in the stealth box. I ended up taking the stealth box apart and using the top as a template to make my own baffle. Then I used the factory storage cubby as a mold to make a fiberglass box. The 10TW3 sounds amazing. If the 10TW1 size specs are the same as the 3, it won’t fit. If it’s any shallower, it probably will because the 3 was pretty close! In fact I could have made it work. I took a heat gun to the stealth box and softened it up enough to bend it back where it made contact with the angled side. Would have worked, but I got a little extra volume making my own fiberglass box.

Was it bottom contact that was an issue with the 10tw3? I keep seeing conflicting information everywhere so this is why i’m asking

Well it’s likely conflicting just based on the language used. The cubby (and stealth box) have slanted back wall. The cage of the 10TW3 hits that slanted backwall. So not really the bottom of the box. The bottom corner of the sub hits the slanted side wall of the box. But like I said that’s where I heated it and bent it away a bit for clearance and it would have worked.

Makes sense, thanks. When looking for a sub, would u say I should stick to one with a mounting depth just below that of the 10w3 and I’d be safe? Or is the width of the basket/magnet also the issue here?

To be honest, I’m not sure. I’d need to compare the backs of multiple subs because I suspect the cage / magnet / coil design has just as much to do with it as the depth. The overall depth wasn’t an issue, just the ā€œbottom widthā€. A sub with more cone-shape (think more like the shape of traditional non-shallow mount woofers) would work better. But it would take comparing the shallow mount options. Sorry I can’t give you a more definitive answer but there’s more nuance to it as it’s a combination of depth and width. Here is how mine turned out.

Thanks that all makes sense. May take some trial and error to figure out what fits.

Key 500? Thats my plan as well. I like the clean amp install in the other storage bin, looks great and i think I may copy that idea. Have u been happy with that setup? Any other speaker/amp upgrades or just the sub?
