Just to close the loop for me, I had another member DM me with a set of j-braces he had for sale, so I was able to finally secure a set and just installed them today. Overall it went well, I've never worked much on vehicles before so I was much slower than most every other install I've heard...
Initially I was for sure just going to have a Ford dealer do the install, but it's taken so long, and I've watched so many installation vids in that time, I think I've gained the confidence to actually give it a try.
The Australian order is a possibility, are those the exact same as the ones...
Good idea, I just filed a report with the NHTSA. I doubt anything will come of it, but I sure feel like I'm not being heard at Ford (they keep cancelling my order for J-braces, twice now, not sure how I'm supposed to implement their fix), so I'm happy to try a different tact.
Agree! By changing the design mid model year so as not to require the braces is as good as admitting they had a faulty design that needed fixing. Yet not only are they still not issuing a recall or reimbursement for previous owners, now you still cannot even get the required J-braces from Ford...
No, I'm not the guy in that thread, but I do appreciate his post, as it was very detailed (which I needed) and got the job done for me with no issues. Everything working perfectly, no space issues with the spare tire, either, everything fit fine.
Sounds like you have other options in mind, so...
I would think the solution I used, that I posted in reply #7 above should work (at least it did for me). Cost was about $75, and everything works as it should.
I really like it, it is the look I was looking for and was the most reasonably priced one I could find. Was more difficult than I expected to assemble and install, but got it done. Definitely needed 4 people to place it on the bed. Only thing it didn't have that I would have liked is a pass...
Why did you post 5 separate threads with the same question?
My climate "Auto" button goes 0-3-2-1-0 and so on. Your out of order button sounds like maybe a programming issue that I assume any dealership should be able to fix for you.
Appreciate all the suggestions, to close the loop here, I ended up installing a no-splice solution I found which is very similar to the Leer packaged solution mentioned above by kvranger, but buying the components individually. Total cost was about half the price of the Leer solution. Link...
Thanks, but the attached thread is for the 6 AUX switches, right? I don't want to hook up my topper 3rd brake light to an AUX switch, but hook it up so it activates when I press the brake. That's the wire I'm looking for, and not sure if the RR even has one run to the back.
