Anyone have ideas for how to get a camera view of your truck bed when the view out the rear window is blocked (such as by a folded up tonneau cover or by a tall load)? I'd like to be able to keep an eye on the bed contents as I drive.

Bonus points if there is a related option for maintaining a reversing camera view when the tailgate is down. When I'm hauling long lumber, a reversing camera would be most useful.

Thanks, all.

watching your cargo would be nice, you can’t see the bottom of the bed through the rear view mirror.

I agree, I think for a short bed, there should definitely be a way for that tail gate camera to look out when it is down. Either to physically rotate it or have it change views like right now you can look straight down at the hitch.

I wonder if a simple wires phone connected camera would be quick solution if you can get it through CarPlay or android auto On the center screen

I bought a wolf box g900 bumper cam to solve these very problems, but snow and extreme cold have killed my motivation to install it thus far. I’m definitely going to mount one of the cams to give me a rear view with the tailgate down and I’m not sure where I’ll mount the other.

Any dash cam where you can put the rear camera on the top of the cab. I have a discount code for wolfbox if you are tuning about them.

I installed the Wolfbox dashcam system mostly because I had lost a lot of visibility when I installed my topper. Mounted the rear camera inside the rear topper window so I have full view from the rear view mirror. But you could mount it wherever you want.

That sounds really smart. I wonder if I could mount the camera inside an upper corner of the rear window, where it (might) see over a folded tonneau cover. Would you mind describing the installation? I.e. does it require taking apart trim, headliner, etc. and running wires? Thanks very much!

It was a very easy to install. There are 2 options for powering it, the easiest is with a cigarette lighter adapter that plugs into your center console. Pretty easy to run the wiring without having to take much apart, you can just stuff it under the trim pieces and it stays pretty good. With this method it powers on when you start the car, and shuts down when you turn it off. This is what I initially did to get it up and running as quickly as possible. The second method involves hard wiring it to the fuse box under the drivers side dash. Doing it that way allows for a “parking mode” which monitors the car when parked and not running, if it senses an incident it records it. I’m planning on switching mine to this method since I’ve found a couple videos that clearly show how to do that. I’ve never done much modifications to cars, but feel pretty confident with doing it after watching these vids.
I’m sure you could install it like you suggest looking at the bed, and if there is any view there it should work as the rear camera has a very wide field of view.
There’s a 2-camera product and a 3-camera product depending on what you want to do.
It sends to work well and has good resolution, my only complaint is that it’s a large mirror that straps to your existing mirror (at least for the Raptor). For many other models it has a new mount that you replace your original with, looks cleaner.
