I was able to push the backside of that clip through the hole up by the bulkhead, using a “tool“ that I made out of some scrap metal in my garage.

I'm not so concerned about the surface rust on the driveshaft (and other bare steel), just a bit surprised that it was already so prevalent. The SS exhaust is disappointing.

I was removing the factory skid plates and saw all this on a truck I picked up in Long Beach CA with 21 miles on it, and drove home ~400 miles. What the heck!
For those who have installed one of these, how tight was the fit into the new plate? I am having trouble getting mine to pop in, and I'm ready to start grinding. I took some measurements:
~1.51" at the plug clips themselves, squeezed all the way down to the plug
~1.65" on the factory bracket...
