Well, Ford took everyone by surprise when the revealed the Maverick with a hybrid as the standard power train. It would be fantastic if they did something similar for the Ranger.
Yes, this is the first article I've seen that indicated the Ranger PHEV will be available globally. Everything else I've read so far, was only confirming it for Europe.
This article is about the Aussie version of the 2022 Ranger but it provides some interesting insight about what we can expect for the North American version.
I think the Explorer hybrid has the same setup (electric motor will be between the motor and the transmission) and it has regenerative braking. Its part of the design.
I think they will have the ProPower inverter system just like the F-150. That would be very cool because it will be able to power your house during an outage. A lot of our Texas friends would have loved to have that during the last week.
The F-150 hybrid is not a plug-in hybrid. There is no charging from an electrical grid and it can not go anywhere near 10 miles on battery power alone.
With a hybrid vehicle (not the plug-in hybrid variety) 100% of its energy is derived from gasoline. It just uses the gasoline more efficiently...
With the 7.2 onboard generator it can power your entire house:

This is very cool.
Did you see something documenting that there would not be regenerative braking? This would surprise me since the F-150 hybrid has regenerative braking as well as all other Ford hybrids that I am aware of.
I think a Ranger plug-in hybrid will be an ideal compromise, Matt. With the plug-in you should be able to get 40 miles or so on EV before the ICE kicks in. This would also help out us folks that are getting oil dilution because of short trips on the ICE. I'll have to give it a serious look...
