There was an issue with sodium filled exhaust valves for that year. Ford has addressed. Unfortunately, it was the issue for this engine. After years, engines have no issues with the exhaust valves. Does not mean something else may sneak in but not worried about the welds on the liquid sodium...
A very important point for some engines is the coolant mix with water. I cannot say how important the coolant type is to the Ford 2.7 engine but for Mazda you can do serious damage to the engine by using the wrong coolant.
Was not directed in my direction but short trips are always severe service schedule. If a UOA is performed the oil life is judged first by TBN, viscosity and wear metals. If you just go by every 6 months instead of milage, that should cover it (because short trips=low milage) Some oil analysis...
Honestly have not read this but thought this would contribute to the discussion.

BakFlip MX-4 here. Absolutely love it. I can see where the rails can find a way to get water around it and black RTV can fix it at the seal between the plastic cap/rail. Very easy install but for me I removed the end caps to the rails and slid the mounting brackets on the rails.
Stribeck curve. I have seen 90% at boundary lubrication but thought that was high. Take your choice and make it your own reality.

Engine bearings are just one part of the boundary lubrication, piston rings are constantly going into...
Short trips, cold oil is your main factor. Only a used oil analysis will give you the right information.
It is how you drive. Taxi engines last a very long time because the engine oil stays hot. Additives like moly that are bonded with sulphur and are activated at running oil temperature.

Red Line MT-90 is in my Miata MT. AN (alkylated naphthalene) has taken front seat from Esters to pair up with PAO. That had me interested with Mobil 1 Truck and SUV with AN that pairs well with non-polar base stock.
