I had to turn back on a trail Saturday because FORD choses to put PLASTIC ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PANS OF THEIR OFF ROAD VEHICLES. I just don't get this.
Anyway I'm looking forward to receiving the skids.
It looks very cool. How much weight is it designed to hold without flexing and vibrating? I need something stable at speed off road out here in the desert in So AZ.
I am using Ford's semi-synthetic for my 1st 3 oil changes 1200/4700-5000/8000-10000 I take mine out in the desert fairly regularly so dirt/dust/sand is an issue for me. After the 8000-10000 oil change I plan on replacing the plastic oil pan with an aluminum pan and running Amsoil full synthetic...
I will add that the trans cooled down as soon as I was able to get more speed going. It's why I believe a trans cooler will reduce a lot of the getting warm going slow in high heat.
Also I do suggest rear suspension sensor skids and shock skids for peace of mind.
I didn't notice any significant difference. The engine was fine. The trans got a little warm when in 4 low going through technical situations (With at least the rear locker engaged.) in 104+ degree heat (116 degree is the hottest I've been off roading in). I'm going to add a bigger Aluminum...
