You're right, they are very close. A quick google search shows my old 03 F150 Super Cab was 12" longer 4" wider and 1" taller. I'd bet Ford probably used that relay box on other Rangers and other Fords. Ford sold enough late model Rangers that there are probably a few wrecks that ended up in salvage yards already. Your parts guy might also be able to cross reference that part to see what else uses that part.
