I don't know about 'how much room' there is when I turn; but there is no rubbing at all. There's about 1/4" clearance between the steering knuckle and the inside tire sidewall; so anything wider would probably not fit with these stock wheels (+55 Offset).

Wheels, yes. But the Spare is a taller tire on the 17" wheel, and so it is the same diameter as the stock tire on the 18" wheel. The diameter is the important number here. Wheel size makes no difference if the overall diameter is the same. Compare them here: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

Possibly Tranny Torque Converter Lock/UnLock - sometimes they will 'shudder' a bit when Locking/UnLocking, and it can be quite noticeable.
