Normal for DI engines to have gas in the oil and smell like it. Possible for it to dilute viscosity if OCI's are extended or forgotten. Sending a sample for analysis never hurts, would give some good info as to what mileage interval would be ok for oil changes.
Hopefully they can update the mounting system and hardware and sell it for those in your situation. Would be a waste to get rid of the tonneau just to buy a new one.
He may mean the numerical values below the gauge like the F150's have. My work truck F150 has the numerical numbers for the temps below the gauges, I haven't been able to do that on my ranger yet.
