I have the spare that came with trailer and I also have an E rated Transeagle from another trailer thats new 2025 and should be fine
  2. Alaskan Expedition Prep thread, Ultimate tow test for the Ranger

Im set on spares, I (will) have a Nexen Rodian ATX as my spare, its a different tire because the spares are 17inch but wheels are 18" (I was careful to match the diameters) I have 2 trailer spares, worst case that gets me to Fairbanks unless there is some ridiculous unforeseen issue. I...
  3. Alaskan Expedition Prep thread, Ultimate tow test for the Ranger

Gas - I will remap this, but I have my gas stops between Dawson Creek and Tok all mapped out, used Gemini AI to map out every stop outside the major fuel hubs to minimize the purchase of remote station 87. I will prob carry gas, but Im still looking in to that because of all the elevation...
  4. Alaskan Expedition Prep thread, Ultimate tow test for the Ranger

For trailer protection, Im starting with this and working from there on some other ideas, I wont leave it bare. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CYVP8VVP/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1 Trailer bearings? Suspension? IDK, whatever the trailer came new with, we just bought...
  5. Alaskan Expedition Prep thread, Ultimate tow test for the Ranger

I spent a LOT of time on the filter research and landed on the XG version of the Fram, not the version that most people swear off (for good reason). According to my research the XG filter, it has the wire mesh backing and dual layer synthetic glass microfiber which are superior, for THIS...
  6. Alaskan Expedition Prep thread, Ultimate tow test for the Ranger

I hope this is the right forum category for this thread/conversation, since this is the TOWING area I picked here. I am in the prep stage for an epic adventure to Alaska with my 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat FX4 with Advanced Tow Package. I have a long list of upgrades and plans to get the Ranger...
  7. Anyone do a transmission fluid and filter change on the 24+

My typo was bad and I didnt catch what you were saying. the dealer said "about $300" not 4300... sorry for that.
  8. Anyone do a transmission fluid and filter change on the 24+

I will confirm the price with the dealer, $4300 sounds like a transmission rebuild price, not a drain and refill price. I have a lot of other upgrades to do so I am leaning towards dealer or transmission shop doing it.
  9. Anyone do a transmission fluid and filter change on the 24+

Anyone do a transmission fluid and filter change on the 24+ ? I have not found a great video, several videos of gen 5. It looks a little intimidating, Dealer quoted me "about 4300" when I called, so I am expecting $400. Im prepping for a long tow of a decent size camper so I want to get a...
  10. Well, I broke a bolt that holds in the bump stop...

I ordered some Timbren SES for towing and the stock bump stops were very difficult to remove. One side came off after a large breaker bar, the other side bolt snapped off inside. I have little experience with broken bolts, I am honestly not sure what I am going to do.
  11. Rear differential LS additive?

" The debate on [insert any oil/fluid/additive] has been going on since it's inception " SO TRUE Im leaning towards the 140 just for the trip then go back to 90.
  12. Rear differential LS additive?

OK, Using same thread for a newish topic related. Looks like we have Dana M220 which Ford calls for 75w85, but Dana calls for 75w140 for HD situations like towing. Prepping my truck to tow a camper from Ohio to Alaska and back. Differential fluid before the trip is a 100% item, I was going to...
  13. Towing 4500-5000# camper - my experience

No offense. You have to realize THAT picture was taken the moment we picked it up from the dealer. The squat is not as much as it appears, the truck is on a slight incline thats starts about where the hitch is so the picture is a little deceiving. This was with 0 anything in the camper, ALL our...
  14. Aftermarket rear diff cover Non raptor

Did the kit come with gasket?
  15. Towing 4500-5000# camper - my experience

I went to the scales when realistically loaded for a weekend trip and I was WELL under GAWR (I was under 10k), as long as the camper is evenly loaded, tongue weight will be well within limits.
  16. Rear differential LS additive?

I am getting ready to change my differential fluids, I do have the electronic locking rear diff. Do I HAVE to use the Motorcraft 75w85? I am sure I can use 75w90GL5 without issues. Do I need to add an extra bottle of friction modifier like...
  17. Towing 4500-5000# camper - my experience

I dont have the Ford TPMS for trailer tires. I am sure I have a lot of prep to do. Had not thought about gravel protection for trailer, I need to look in to that.
  18. Towing 4500-5000# camper - my experience

From my thread on the upgrade, IDK if the links are still good. G-FX TR19 Rim 18X9 6X139.7 Offset +12 Matte Black (Ebay) $720.00 https://www.ebay.com/itm/175676739954 I went kinda budget on the tires. I used these on my F150 and had good luck with them. I know white lettering is a polarizing...
  19. Towing 4500-5000# camper - my experience

It looks worse than it is because there is a slight hill I am parked on. Its about a 2 inch drop and really close to level. I used a level on the truck bed on level ground to check. ALSO in that pic is the truck bed fully loaded with all our gear because this was t
  20. Towing 4500-5000# camper - my experience

I will start a new thread about this, but I plan to tow this camper with this truck to Alaska next summer. Approx 10k miles round trip.
