Anyone else’s A/C absolute garbage at anything under 25mph?

Snowman asked a good question. As long as the switch is on and the green light is lit for A/C, the regular driving mode is needed to make the A/C work effectively. In eco mode the computer minimizes the A/C, defrost, etc. functions. Found that out on the wife's Camry hybrid and seems to hold true for our Taco non-hybrid.

A good point. I’ve never rolled in a parade with my Tacoma (yet), but I’ve not had A/C trouble in 25*C weather just idling, waiting for my wife for around 1/2hr. But I was in “Standard” driving mode. Having the truck in “Eco” makes sense that the BCM would slow down the A/C for MPGs.

Anyone else notice their A/C doesn’t blow cold at slower speeds? Mine is great at higher speeds, luckily most of my driving with the taco is highway. In town though, or sitting at a stop, it’s not cold at all.

I took it in a parade today (going about 2mph) and by the end of it my dash was telling me to safely pull off and refer to the manual. The A/C was cranked up the entire parade but nothing cold coming out, so I’m sure the compressor was overworking and likely the source of the issue, but this shouldn’t be happening either way. I will definitely be taking it in, but wondered if anyone else was having the problem with slower speeds not producing cold air.
I just had this problem. I took it into service and they fixed the issue. Apparently some hose or something was disconnected.

Are you on eco drive mode by chance?
Not in eco mode, I wish that I was at this point so there wouldn’t be a need for a service visit.

Good to know, hopefully it’s something that easy. Was yours working at higher speeds then, or not at all?

My truck came with a bad condenser, didn't notice until it started warming up and i actually wanted ac. A few days in the service center for a warranty fix and we are good as new.

Same here I always seem like I’m turning it down because it’s too cold
We've experienced similar in ours. The same setting we use in other vehicles is much colder in Riddick. I've started slowly warming it up to find a happy place. Love having uber-a/c :).

We were offroad doing a lot of crawling last weekend. Never noticed any speed-dependent issues.

It was until I got hit with the notification that the coolant was overheating and to pull over a second time. Then the AC went to shit all together. Service took care of me quick though, same day in and out. Haven't had an issue since

Mine is ice cold, and I live in phoenix to boot. I can say for sure it has worked beautifully for the last year. It's first summer with me (last May) we had 118 degrees for over 100 days, and it was fine the entire time. Worth a visit to the dealer.

Mine works and I’ve had no issues with it not, the times I’ve used it. I will say it’s not the best A/C I’ve seen. My 2021 VW Gti blasts ice cold air instantly and puts it to shame.
I’ve had other VW’s and the A/C was better than my Tacoma.

Hopefully this helps. A month ago I was noticing this issue (or something very similar) after my 15k service maintenance. My AC became entirely dependent on speed. Long story, short, for my case, the radiator fan plugs had come loose. Apparently they weren't properly plugged in so the fans weren't cooling properly. For me, I wasn't sure if that was caused AFTER the maintenance appointment or just coincidently happened at the same time.

Yes, I was frustrated with the dealership but I did want to share this on this thread. Maybe the OP is experiencing this same issue.

Take it to your dealer and have them check out the radiator fan plugs. Hopefully it's something simple like that.

If you were getting overheat warnings, maybe your fan is not running.
THAT!
What you're describing is a lack of circulation, and the culprit has to be the fan, if the problem doesn't present at road speeds. Get it checked.

Visit dealer as soon as you can. I had the same issue with AC blowing hot air at low speeds or stopped at light then I got coolant overheating warning that went away. When I got home I checked under radiator it was spilling water everywhere. Visited dealer asap and they said It was disconnected radiator fan from previous visit getting 10k mile service.

Why would they disconnect anything? That would really piss me off.

Spent an hour leaving the Pocono Nascar race Sunday in bumper to bumper traffic. Basically idling the entire time and it was 91° and near 100% humidity. Took a bit to cool the cab, but worked great. The entire 3 hour ride home it was between 88° and 95° and blower was on low and keeping cab at 69° the whole trip.
