I wish I had something more positive to contribute, but as per usual, here’s a lurker making an account to vent about an issue.
I bought my truck at the beginning of August and have been loving it, until one faithful afternoon I hop in and it won’t start. No crank, nothing. The only thing that lights up on the dash is the odometer. The car can lock and unlock, the headlights turn on, and I check the battery voltage and it’s reading fine.
I got it towed to my local dealership on a Sunday and had to wait til the next day (Sep 9th) for them start figuring it out. It took them about 3 days to let me know (only because I asked) that they think it’s the Gateway module. They put it on order but said it’s on back order and they have no idea when it would come in. Me personally, I don’t like answers like that.
I called Ford Corporate to see what they could do, and they apparently coordinated with the dealership to expedite the part. The dealership apparently got the module yesterday (Sep 27th), replaced it, only to find out that the problem persists. Again, the dealership, and corporate, have not been very communicative unless I’m the one bothering them about it. I hate having to be that guy, I understand I’m dealing with other human beings, and the truck having a problem isn’t their fault, but the communication sucks.
Ultimately, I’m confused as to what troubleshooting steps the dealership techs took to come to a conclusion that it was a Gateway Module, only for it to not be, and having no real idea, it seems, where to go. I’m not looking forward to them taking a whole other month to come to another dead end.
Is the Raptor a Lemon? Should I initiate a buyback? I’ve been fighting the Ford allegations (like, Fixed Or Repaired Daily, and Found On Road Dead) for a while now, but now it’s embarrassing.
