I see this as an option.
The vehicle is already 4x4.
Why would I need to spend more money?
I’m really not sure what this would do for me.
Thank you.

Most 4x4 with a open diff will send power to one front wheel and one back wheel so if both those wheels are in the air or stuck on ice you are not moving a inch. With the locking rear diff you now have 3 wheels to push you forward. This is the easiest way to explain it without getting into technical terms.

Thanks for explaining. Just to clarify. Is it more for off-roading or would you say it wound help you in snow?

Maybe I’m better off with the FX4 package which I believe includes locking rear differential.
I’m also thinking FX4 would give some more height and ruggedness which I would like.

Just know that requires/adds the running boards.

I like running boards.
Are the running boards included in the FX4 option price?

Yes will help in snow. Last years winter storm piled up a 4 foot snow drift at work and I had to put it in 4 low and lock the rear diff in my current vehicle and it still took me about 4 runs to get through it so it just not for off-road.

FX4 package doesn't really give you any extra height but includes a little more aggressive tire, skid plates underneath, tuned suspension and yes locking rear diff.

Yes it includes running boards for free whereas if you didn't get the FX4 package they are $750. I know the last time I checked the Ford.ca website wasn't updated yet. Still had you paying for running boards but on my dealer website they were added for free.
