I just saw a post on the State Of Charge podcast, detailing Ford’s new policy. Buy a Ford EV, they’ll pay for home charger installation. What a great idea! I think Scout Motors should do this! I’ll be even more EV incentivized. (Although a new Scout already has me salivating). This seems like a much better approach than free charging at public fast DC chargers.

I actually just had an electrician come out and quote me. To get one installed within 30 feet of the electrical panel is about $1,800, not counting the cost of the charger itself which is another $500 or so for level 2.

I wanted to be sure because I don't have a garage, they can either wall mount a weatherproof option (NEMA 3 or 4), or run a trench to a pedestal next to the driveway.

Level 3 isn't allowed where I live, and wouldn't be super feasible in residential due to voltage requirements.

So compared to the cost of a $50K to $70K vehicle, a $2,300 install is pretty negligible.

A week ago I got a quote from Qmerit for $1100, not counting the cost of the charger. My panel is in the garage so I’m within 30’ for any spot in the garage for a level 2 charger.

It's nice that Ford gives F-150 buyers a free charger, charging at home saves buyers money and offers the convenience of always being charged. As a two tesla owner with two tesla chargers looking to replace my F-150 with an electric truck, I think I will wait for until either Ford updates the Lightning to a NACS connector or wait for my Scout reservation to become available. The Cybertruck is sadly not my cup of tea.

I don’t have a charger at home but my boss installed a 220 outlet at my parking spot at work and it was around $500. I get there plug in and it’s up to 80% by the time I leave.

I’m sure a lot of the cost has to do with the needs of the specific location.

I had my home charger installed for the cost of two cases of Guinness and materials.

My neighbor is a retired master electrician.
