Just pulled the trigger on a 2024 Ranger XLT with FX4 and the tech and towing packages. First truck ever! We've been using a Subaru Outback XT to tow a tear drop trailer all over Colorado and the west. I've been wanting a more capable vehicle for off road exploration and have been waiting for these redesigned pick ups and SUVs to arrive.

Funny, after test driving a Tacoma TRD Off Road a few weeks ago, we put a deposit down for one. It's taking a long time and that gave me time to consider the Ranger as they are now hitting dealer lots. We tested a used 2021 Lariat (because why not) and the new one. Didn't take long to change our minds from the Toyota to the Ranger. Our first Ford ever. Heck, it's an our first domestic brand vehicle ever (after Subarus and Hondas). Now to see if I can get my Toyota deposit back (probably not...argh).

Anyway, we pick it up Monday (needed a couple days to finalize financing through our credit union, which has insanely great rates right now). And then we'll head out to Utah in two weeks to try it out a bit. I'll share pics. And will have questions!

Hey, me too! Order placed two days ago for the same as you, and I'm driving my Outback until it arrives. Looking forward to hearing your review. Do you plan to sell your Outback? I'd be interested in knowing if you get a good deal on it. Mine is a '13 2.5i Limited with some cosmetic problems and I'm not holding out hope for a fair trade/sale now that the market is cooling off.

Mine was a '21 Touring XT with only 34k miles. Carmax lowed-balled me (we considered a used Ranger) but the Ford dealer gave me a pretty good offer (after a mild negotiation). It seemed like the dealership was pretty motivated to move the Ranger. Maybe Ford is being aggressive to take some marketshare from Toyota?

So far, so good. It's definitely a step down from my Outback in terms of daily driving - just not as smooth or comfortable. But there was a 50/50 chance I was going to really damage that Outback with where I'd been driving it. The Ranger FX4 will be much better for my adventures.

Good luck!

Glad you got a good deal! How do the seats compare for, say, a road trip? The truck will become my daily driver but will eventually be the RV hauler as well. Haven't bought that yet! I don't care as much about my comfort as my passenger on a distance trip.

The Outback seats were superb, it's not a fair comparison. They were soft leather, supportive, heated and ventilated, and the driver seat had a forward extension for those of us who need more support for our long legs. That Touring trim competes nicely with expensive luxury cars.

The Ranger XLT seats are ok. It's my biggest concern right now. I'm tall-ish (6'1") but average build. I find the bolsters on the seat bottom to be a little too close together and create mild pressure points on the outside of my hips. And the seatback is a little narrow at shoulder height. I hardly notice on short drives, but we'll see what happens on a long road trip. I may regret not getting a Lariat.
