Do they greatly reduce road spray or stop it along sides of your truck?

Yes - very well for solid objects, but not completely for spray, even the XL ones don't completely keep the side clear. You would need solid running boards for that. The spray sifts up through all those holes on top! I carry a spray bottle of tap water up front to rinse off the salt and mag chloride from all four door handles ;(
