The CAI is one of the last modifications that I want to do to my RR. I’ve looked at some of the one‘s that are already on the market, but the aluminum / metal construction seemed to me to be a good source of radiated heat transfer, with the potential to totally eliminate the “CA” part of the “CAI”. I was waiting for one of the major players (S&B / Mishimotot / AEM / etc.) to release a composite air box. It sounds like we’ll be seeing theS&B CAI hit the market in a couple of months.

Thank you for reaching out. 75-5176 is estimated to launch in early Nov at this time.

Air is terrible at conducting heat, the minimal amount it picks up from a metal vs plastic housing is negligible.

I saw that Buckle up is supposed to be getting a shipment of Process West CAI at the end of September.

K & N will also have an intake available in the next couple of months, according to their response to my email.

Personally, I don’t want any metal or aluminum air-box for an intake. Too much heat under the hood for this truck. Metal air-box’s will suffer from too much heat-soak.

It’s not a large issue with a turbocharged engine due to the FMIC but it’s not something that is helpful either.👍🇺🇸

Tell us you don’t understand anything about aluminum without telling us you don’t understand anything about aluminum…

I would really appreciate it if we could stick to constructive comments. Thanks!

I apologize if my comment is perceived as non-constructive.
Let me elaborate.

Most aluminum used in good quality CAI’s is a corrugated aluminum (think cardboard but made out of AL).
It does a fantastic job of isolating engine bay heat from intake air!

I was simply pointing out that yet again Ranger/Hobb is spreading misinformation…

You’re right, I’ve never heard of using that type of material to fabricate CAI‘s. I’m familiar with bonded aluminum panels with a polymer substrate, but you’re not going to be able to weld that material. Fabulous Fabricators produces one of the most popular aluminum CAI’s for the RR, and they list their material as “3mm Aluminum”, and because it is a formed and welded aluminum construction, I would assume the material is 3mm aluminum plate. Process West, the company that manufactures the only other aluminum intake that I’m familiar with does not elaborate on the construction material. I do know that the K&N heat shields are solid aluminum plate. If there is another company manufacturing CAI’s for the RR out of a “corrugated aluminum”, then I would be very interested in their product. I do know that polymers are much more inefficient at heat transfer than aluminum, which is why I was very interested in seeing S&B, Mishimoto, or AFE bring their product to market.
