I built out one of Vertical Tire Carriers this morning and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. It installed in about 5 minutes. Super stable, super lightweight (25lbs). It uses the already stiff edges of the bed to secure the mount. It's stout!!!.

People say this may be the lightest/strongest, easiest vertical tire carrier ever to be installed in a Ranger. I don't say that, but I heard some people do. 😉

This will also probably be the least expensive vertical tire carrier on the market. This design doesn't require a bunch of extra tubing, welding, or jigging. Exactly what I was shooting for!

On Friday, I'll build out the new slider and drawer to mount between the two spares like you see in the last rendering in this post.

Couldn't be happier with how the tire carriers worked. I decided to hold off on building the center drawers and slider. Our team is running wide open pumping out Black Friday orders and I didn't want to gum up the works by distracting with prototype parts. I'll get those built after we get over the hump.

The run through the desert yesterday was great. Some high speed, some choppy rocks, perfect to test the stability of the tire carriers. We put in about 100 miles.

There are a few big benefits of this new "Chase Tire Rack":
  • Lightweight - only 25 lbs
  • Easy install/removal - takes about 5 minutes
  • No drilling required
  • Very inexpensive as compared to traditional chase racks

I also setup a great set of Diode Dynamics SS3's for chase lights on our new light brackets. These brackets were built so that if you removed your AAL bed rack and wanted to retain the lights, they could bolt on to the truck easily.

Are we close to production for the tire racks? I could really use them! @AdventureLab
Nope. Not yet. I haven't had much time to devote to this one yet. I have spent a lot of time thinking about the options and I think I have a clear direction for the initial prototype. I have to bounce around to the different vehicle platforms we support, so for the last couple of weeks I have been focusing on the new Wrangler products we are developing. It's getting to be heavy desert season, so I'll be back on the Ranger soon.

If you have any suggestions or questions about this one, please let me know here. Thanks!!!

The ones you posted above look great! I could really use them. I'm headed to Baja soon and I'm hoping I don't have to switch to another system. Keep me posted! @AdventureLab

I am going to try to get these tire racks posted this week. We have put a ton of miles on them since posting these photos and they're still perfect. Very happy with the testing on these. They're going to be great!
