Towing over 2,000lbs requires trailer brakes in most States besides the safety implications especially if towing in hills. Otherwise technically there's no issues getting moving.
Where is your hammered connector? Maybe buy some mud flaps, because I'm not realistically seeing how with the flaps any rocks would hit BSM components.

I'd say it'd probably a trade off of the following: 15% better in snow/ice and offroad and 15% worse in fuel economy and noise.
So it all depends on your priorities.

They're good people - no gimmicks.
Most of my friends' dads have 2wd trucks. They work great for family haulers. Costco runs, going to work, pulling their boats.
It's really common in the South but if you get up to Canada you can't buy a 2wd Ranger new.
My point is: most buyers actually appreciate on-road performance balanced with off-road performance.

My sister drives a Wrangler and loves it, but she is realistic that it drives like a tractor, gets 15-16mpg, is loud, yada yada. She's never gone more off road than a dirt road.
