If you are going anywhere remote you should get your HAM license. Sure get a GMRS hand held to talk to your buddies you're with but if you're stuck in BFE a 2 meter rig is more likely to make contact with someone.

Thing is I ran the lights on high for about a half hour trip and they did not seem hot when I stopped. There is definitely some kind of distortion in the finish on the bezels.
I emailed the company about adjustments but didn't get a reply.
