Have similar issue but I use Google maps via CarPlay. When Google maps pops in to give me verbal directions, it's almost too quiet. But when Siri pops in to read a text I just received, she's loud AF.

I think you would be much better off going with an SL rated tire in 255/70/18 that will be a lot lighter and ride smoother than the D rated BFGs in the 245 size.

Yea I didn't have a locker on my last truck. Can't say I ever really needed one, but may be nice to have if I do more serious off-roading in the future.
