My temperature measurements were only elevated by a couple of degrees, so I'm not really all that concerned with them melting. I did see a few examples of bmw DRLs melting completely unmodified as well and it looks like they use a single high powered Led compared to our 6 significantly smaller ones
The truck is back together and I'm really digging it. I found that Oracal 8300 Transparent Orange only needed one layer and was a very close match to the rest of the Raptor line up. I did lose a little brightness compared to stock, but it's bearable until a new LED replacement option is...
I took some temperature measurements with a 30 minute interval. With a 45F ambient reading, the stock DRL internal temperature hit steady state hovering at 49F. With the stacked filters in my previous posts (worst case scenario), steady state was 54F. This was measured at the light pipe closest...
Interesting, I had considered the heat but didn't think that it'd get to be quite that hot with the addition of the filter. I may need to power the module up on the bench and measure the temps before I wreck the light pipe. Thanks for the heads up
A little update for everyone: I'm still waiting on 2 more vinyl options to come in, but so far the best looking option is using Tamiya clear orange model car paint. The biggest problem with this is that after it cures it becomes very brittle, and I'm not sure how colorfast it will be when...
My wife and I lovingly refer to any built-in wireless chargers in a car as a phone warmer, because that's all they really do. It's pretty wild how bad they are across the board
Here's some literature for the anti-glare stuff. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/feu/en/news/2016/03/18/drivers-can-now-keep-the-high-beams-on-worry-free--new-ford-head.html
That's probably a negative, there's only one plug from the truck's harness to the back of the headlight for the Raptor. Not sure if it's the same for any of the other models, but I'd imagine there would be some difference with the reflector style
I'll see what I can drum up for you, it almost looks like the circuit is a simple 12v+ and ground to the LEDs and then some sort of analog "hey I'm plugged in" circuit that goes back to the headlight controller. I'll take some more detailed photos of the board in the morning
It looks like they're made by Koito, which a quick Google search says they're a Japanese company that specializes in lighting and vehicle electronics (makes sense to me). I was wanting to take the board off the heat sink as well but I don't have enough thermal compound in my computer hoard box...
Alright, so I went ahead and pulled the lights out of my truck and am trying a few options out for us. Firstly, here is what the boards look like for us. It's significantly different to the overseas options as previously discussed, but looks simpler in terms of circuitry. Its probably possible...
Yeah, I meant to convert the headlight DRLs to amber as well. That's why I haven't done the grille lights yet myself, I'm wanting to match them all together one day. But I've suddenly found myself with a lot of free time so I may be taking apart one of the modules to see how difficult that...
Nice, I was thinking about doing the same thing and ordering some PCBs since I've already got the SMD LEDs in a drawer somewhere around here. You should tackle the PCBs in the headlights next for the DRLs and match the LEDs to your new marker lights
Are you comparing the RR to an ST or to a TRX? Because either way, those are very different vehicles to the RR that serve a very different purpose and should not be expected to have identical performance numbers
Love that they updated the update software, but didn't bother to improve the loading time of the offroad screen. Great use of their resources on that one
I had an inkling that the welcome lighting was causing my locking issues but hadn't had a chance to play with it. I'm glad yall spoke up about it because I was thinking about bringing it up to the dealer when I brought it for my complimentary oil change. I'll revert back and see if that helps...
I hope they don't want as much for this system as they do for the Bronco raptor one, my wallet is already hurting! Would you say it sounds more or less the same in quiet mode? I use the heck out of it when the little one falls asleep in the backseat on road trips
