Metal pedals: what kind of metal for protection from rust and salt corrosion? How to clean the metal without harming the mats?

Current mats: Look good new, but hard to keep clean to an OEM like new appearance. High lips all around and protection under the gas pedal is very good. Snap onto OEM floor pins is good. Traction when wet or slush is decent. Road tar and chewing gum tends to adhere and hard to remove. Fit is excellent. Not flimsy or cheap.

Features: Must hold water and dirt and not spill when removing to avoid messy carpeting. Cleanable to like new. Won't crack or split. High sides. Protect under gas pedal.
