Yep the 2.7L is a great, pretty much rock solid engine. They had minor issues in the 1st Gen but that was all resolved in later Gen versions. Plus it's port and direct injected so no worries on the long term maintenance related to carbon buildup the 2.3L and 3.0L can experience later on since they are direct injected only.I was in the same situation , going back and forth on a Canyon AT4 or a Ranger Lariat FX4 2.7.
Jeep, Nissan, Toyota were never in contention. Quality is a real crap shoot these days, but in the end the 5 trouble free years with my 2.7 Nautilus convinced me to go Ranger. I love that 2.7 twin turbo.
For me, I found these videos on the 2.7L engine very informative.
