XPEL PPF install on my 25 Marsh Gray Ranger Raptor

Paint is so thin on new cars and trucks now. So I dropped my truck off to Mobile Detail Masters in Weaverville, NC for a complete paint correction and install of XPEL PPF on the entire truck. Mitch the shop owner had my truck for a week and did an outstanding job. It’s all about the install and the installer. I also had XPEL ceramic tint installed on the w/s 55% and 35% drive/pass windows. I could not be happier with this install. . Prices vary per install and installer. If you can swing it, it’s best to get a quote by your local installer.

Flaps removed to cover the entire fender flair area.

I am wondering this as well on if they PPF over the decals or around them (and if it is safe for PPF removal down the line to keep the decals intact).

I just bought a Ranger Raptor and was told by my PPF guy that they have to remove the decals and some of the badges. (The decals will not be reusable. The badges are reinstalled afterwards.) If you don’t remove them, you get air trapped under the film around the perimeter of each decal. Maybe others can do it, but he does not.

So I went for a RR that did not have the full $750 decal package - just the RAPTOR decals on the rear fender areas. I will replace them with aftermarket items.

I bought a pair of “RAPTOR” decals from Rocky Mountain Graphics and “RANGER” tailgate lettering from Amazon.

I was watching this thread to see if anyone had anything different to say about this question.

Zero issues with my install of XPEL PPF over the Ford OEM Raptor decals…in fact it looks amazing, and no badges removed. The PPF plotter has a digital template which cuts out the area around the OEM badges so removal is not required.
I could not be happier with how it turned out. It’s all about the install and installer.

Had XPEL installed entirely on my 21 F350 Tremor to include the “Tremor” bed side decal and it still really looks excellent 5 yrs later. I have no plans to remove the PPF.

That Raptor looks sharp. I had PPF put on full front, as well. Got the same installer conversation. They trimmed around the bumper plugs to avoid air gaps.

Thanks! Gotta have PPF on these new cars and trucks, the paint will chip if you look at it wrong.

Not going to have someone do the whole truck but I do have plans to do certain panels myself. If I do the sides of the bed where the graphics are, I would outline them first with knifeless tape, put the PPF over the whole thing, cut around the edges by pulling up on the knifeless tape. Thought being that the PPF would protect the areas not under the decal and the decal would act as the PPF for the area under it.

Your 5 year history on the Tremor is definitely confirmation that it holds up well over time. That was another question I had.

I had never heard of knifeless tape. That sounds like a great trick to get very precise cuts. If you had a white truck I might worry that the edges get dirty over time and would show those borders. But you have the Carbonized Gray so not much to worry about on that - especially if your margins are very precise and tight.

Good luck on the DIY job. Hope you share pictures when it’s done!

I also use this Boost on my PPF after a hand wash. A little goes a long way. It really helps keep PPF in great condition.

Nice. I will look into those 2 products. I too hand wash only.

Every little bit helps - I was really hoping the RR would fit into my garage. Alas it’s ONE INCH too tall and will have to live outdoors. Therefore the PPF expense is an easy decision.
