So, for the last 6 or so years I have been driving my work supplied 5G 4wd dual cab 2.2 diesel manual Ranger here in Australia.
I don't do a lot of Kms, carry much weight, or go offroad, so would prefer something smaller, but this is what I have been given.
Lately work has had 10 leased 6G Rangers delivered, all 4wd, dual or extra cab biturbo auto.
I reluctantly took one home, and was immediately sad. It was soft, had automatic everything, lane assist, emergency braking, and everything seemed to go through the big screen in the middle. There is a menu to change the direction of the air vents, from head to feet!
One week and 500km later, it turns out work is not selling my 5G Ranger, so I have chosen to have it back.
Happy days! The steering is more direct, it has knobs and buttons to turn things on and off, the brakes have feel. I can enter a corner in the correct gear with some engine braking and weight transfer, before the power immediately comes on, rather than waiting seconds for a kick down, and the torque converter to kick in (in the 6G auto).
I have to drive again, if I get it wrong, there is turbo lag, or I nudge a Kerb. It is so much better, and I've walked in the front door happy, rather than sad, after my 20min drive home!
If they can't get me something manual when the 5G is eventually sold, I may have to change jobs.
