Fortunately for the US, we have our best people on the job and our government is taking a multifaceted approach to solving the automotive chip shortage issue.
1) They've boosted the rate of inflation so fewer people can afford to replace their existing vehicle with a new one.
2) They implemented policies to significantly increase the price of fuel, so you can't afford to drive the vehicle you already have.
3) In case you're thinking of going with an EV, they're planning to ramp up interest rates this year to support effort #1.
4) They're going to provide billions in grants for chip manufacturers to produce new foundries that won't be able to produce product for at least two years and will likely be tooled for the wrong chip sets.
5) Given these incentives your only option will be public transportation.

Problem solved!

Fortunately most of the world’s neon production, which apparently is used in the manufacturing of microchips, is secure in a peaceful and protected part of the world: Ukraine and Russia.
On second thought, perhaps the shortage will linger longer.
That said, thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Ukraine for the shortages they’re experiencing. Must be tough right now.
