wondering with the harvester, can you use it s a generator for your house if you lose power or for a camper, campsite etc

the electrical plugs near the charging port make it awesome for tailgating.

Most likely only a few things. A whole house generator is $7-15,000. It comes down to the kilowatts you need. Plus, it would be a drag that you are away from home when the power is out and your fridges and family have no juice.

For a camper or campsite yes, they've already said there is a Harvester camping mode.

For a whole house generator - probably. They said it would support bi-directional charging in one of the press discussions I saw. That doesn't indicate if it will support grid independent (electrical outage with a transfer switch) or grid following (must have grid electricity coming in) or both.

Yes, the charging port will be bi-directional per Scout; however, it would all depend on how your house is wired.

At the recommended 3500w per ton for A/C, and a 2500 square foot house receiving a 3-5 ton A/C unit(depends on vaulted ceilings and such), you would need a 10,500-17,500w generator. That is what I based my recommendation for a 22-25kw generator. Good to hear about your real world usage example.

It’s cold here when we need the generator for the house, so I never ran the AC off the generator. Seattle area we just need it when storms take out trees and transformers start blowing

I want to some clarity on how this works from a convenience perspective...

I fill the harvester with Gas and then run it, and wait in a parking lot while it charges the ostensibly smaller battery at a very slow rate?

Or can I just start driving again once it has gas, and feasibly it's just in a kind of perpetually "charging" state on the battery similar to using a laptop while plugged in?

Half my attraction to this vehicle is the appeal of electric function (quiet drive train, torque for off-road power and what is likely to be heavy vehicle) but charge times and charging networks are the biggest gripes I have with electric. Hoping this gets cleared up.

Typically the Harvester will kick in as you are driving once the battery gets down to 60% (my estimate). The idea is to keep the battery from loosing to much reserve power for high demand needs (towing, passing etc). May cycle on and off or keep running based on power demand as you are driving. Intended to keep you moving with seamless integration of battery/generator power.

In the event I'm down to say, 50 miles of range then; and I have a gas station nearby, can I just expect that the vehicle runs the generator the whole drive to my destination until I charge it to full again? I wonder if it's possible to charge to full on the generator alone (assuming you kept adding gas)

The generator “may” have enough capacity to keep you moving at a very low battery charge level depending on demand. I know the battery size is smaller and has different chemistry that will allow it to be drawn down more safely to low levels. Intent is to keep you moving the longest time possible based on combo of existing battery charge and fuel for Harvester (500 mile estimate has been cited in earlier discussions). Software will integrate power sources to reach maximum distance that is safe for the system to operate.

Scott the CEO has said the Harvester will be no compromises gas and go when the battery is empty.

That's probably a little bit of hyperbole for example if you are heavy towing. But definitely it should be gas and go for highway speeds at reasonable loads.
