Ideas for mounting air compressor.

TLDR: I have both that NAPA compressor and the ARB twin that our truck is made to fit as onboard air. If I didn't already have the ARB sitting in my garage before I bought my Ranger, I would just carry the NAPA around as a portable compressor when I needed it rather than try to fab it up as onboard air.



I have the same Napa air compressor I carry in a different vehicle, and it is a beast, especially for the money. Had an ARB twin sitting on the shelf for a few years that I never got around to installing so that went into the Ranger this summer. The NAPA is a little quicker, but I like the convenience of onboard air.

My ARB twin is mounted in the Ranger's "OEM" location for it between the bed and inside rear fender on the passenger side using an AusMotion bracket https://ausmotion.com/product/arb-compressor-mount-ranger-ra/. ARB makes or made a bracket, but it never seemed to actually be released in the states or in stock in the rest of the world .

I think the ARB twin compressor is a little smaller and thinner than the NAPA compressor, and there might only be 1/2" to spare between the ARB compressor and the rear fender once it is all mounted up and the air line is installed. The ARB's mounting plate is on its side making it perfect for running the eight bolts through the truck bed to sandwich it in there. The NAPA gets bolted down from the bottom of the compressor so mounting it in the same spot would be more difficult. I bet you could fab a cradle with eight studs out the side that would fit through one of the brackets/backing plates used to mount ARB twin compressors in our trucks (like the AusMotion liked above). Or you could try disassembling the compressor housing to try to reconfigure the compressor to fit wherever you want but would likely still need to fab up a bracket.

Wiring is another story. You would need to run dedicated power from the battery to the back to power the actual compressor and can't just power it off one of the upfitter/aux switches by the hitch. I haven't measured draw on the NAPA, but I ended up needing to run 4awg from the battery all the way to the back to power the ARB twin.
