Which trim recommends 44 psi? My XLT (non FX4) recommends 38 psi front and rear. Unloaded, that feels high to me. I'll run 32 psi for the right balance of ride and handling.
I have the tire pressure placard with 38PSI Cold. In warm weather they are about 40-41 psi and then they return back to 38psi on their own in the cold weather.

I did not purchase a FX4 to put weight in the back for Winter. Although, I do have some inner tubes filled with sand for my current 2011 XL Ranger 2.3L 2 wheel drive, standard. You talk about an ABS system in its infant see. Not a lot of help when the ABS is activating in slippery conditions and detuning the motor. You learn quick to shut that off.

It sounds like if you drive the conditions in snow with momentum the Wranglers will be fine. Not sure if the ones offered by Ford have the snow flake. I am talking more about going up to a local ski hill.
Once ice is created from cars spinning then its hard to find a tire that can grip on a slope and drive you up the hill, unless they are studded.

Its about common sense and understanding conditions. I have seen many capable 4 wheel drive vehicles in the ditch in Winter.
